Alex Morgan had a fantastic weekend, scoring four goals to help San Diego Wave beat Gotham FC 4-0, putting the San Diego-based team atop the National Women's Soccer League chart with six points in the first two games.
Alex Morgan at her best.
The Wave created several opportunities, and the 32-year-old striker was able to find the back of the net before the break via a penalty kick. In the 66th minute, the referee awarded another penalty and Morgan scored her second of the night.
In the 70th minute, the United States international scored her third, from open play. Right before the end of the match, Alex Morgan scored her fourth goal of the night with a brilliant build up from San Diego Wave.
With that, Morgan became the third player in National Women’s Soccer League history to score four goals in a game. And importantly, the Wave kept a clean sheet.
