Nigerian forward Emmanuel Dennis has expressed his desire to emulate Yakubu Aiyegbeni’s legendary goal-scoring exploits at Blackburn Rovers, DAILY POST reports.
Aiyegbeni, a former Super Eagles striker, made a lasting impact at the club during the 2011/12 season, netting 17 goals in 32 league appearances for the Blue and Whites. Other Nigerian stars who have played for Blackburn include Dickson Etuhu and Hope Akpan.
Dennis, who joined Blackburn on loan from Nottingham Forest on deadline day, made his debut for John Eustace’s side in the Emirates FA Cup clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Speaking to Rovers TV, Dennis shared his admiration for Aiyegbeni:
“Yakubu played here, and growing up in Nigeria, I watched him a lot. He scored so many goals! He is a big name in Nigerian and African football. His performances in the Premier League were inspiring, and I’m excited to follow in his footsteps.”
With Dennis eager to make his mark at Ewood Park, fans will be watching closely to see if he can replicate Aiyegbeni’s prolific form.
