The Premier League have confirmed that Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been released by Manchester United.
The Swedish striker suffered a cruciate ligament injury in United's Europa League quarter-final win over Anderlecht in April and missed the final 10 matches of the season.United had the option to extend the 35-year-old's contract by an extra year, although the knee injury, which forced him to miss the Europa League final win over former club Ajax, has ultimately made up the club's mind.Despite having undergone successful surgery, it is expected to take months before Ibrahimovic will be in a position to return to action.
