As the second tiers of the semi final of the Copa Italia was played yesterday, Dries Mertens fired Napoli into the Coppa Italia final, beating Inter Milan 2-1 on aggregate after a 1-1 draw in the match and became the club's record goalscorer.
it will be recalled that Napoli defeated Inter 1-0 from the first leg at the San Siro three months ago which gave them the edge yesterday but their advantage was wiped out barely two minutes in as Christian Eriksen - making his fourth Inter start since his January moved from Tottenham - curled a corner home.
But it was Dries Mertens' (41) slotted finish after a superb break from Lorenzo Insigne that ultimately sealed Napoli's place in Wednesday's final against Juventus, overtaking Marek Hamsik (121) as the club's highest scorer (122) in the process.
Napoli will now face 14th time champion of the competition; Juventus on Wednesday June 17 in Rome.
