Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly told Manchester United he wants to leave the club this summer.
Ronaldo made an emotional return to the Red Devils last summer from Italian champions Juventus, inking a two-year deal at Old Trafford.
But the club's poor display last season has reportedly encouraged the Portuguese to move on to pastures new.
That's according to The Times, who claim the six-time Ballon d'Or winner has told the United Brass he wants to prematurely end his second stay at the Theatre of Dreams.
Ronaldo, 37, is said to want the club to let him leave if they receive a satisfactory offer for his services.
The former Real Madrid man's request is driven by his desire to play in the Champions League, which United failed to qualify for last season.
Bayern Munich are said to have paused interest in a potential move for Ronaldo while they wait for a resolution to Robert Lewandowski’s future.
A potential return to Serie A has also been touted as an option for the five-time Ballon d’Or winner.
Close friends reportedly believe that Ronaldo’s love and support for United remains as strong as ever, but that he also holds personal reasons for wanting to leave, with his family said to have experienced a difficult time.
