Anthony Gordon, an Everton star, has at long last spoken out about his abandoned £60 million transfer to Chelsea.
Gordon argued that the figures were "crazy" and that neither he nor any other footballer are worth £60 million.
Some commentators believed Chelsea was crazy to price the young player at such a high amount of money when the 21-year-old England star became a late target for the Blues at the tail end of August.
The 21-year-old would have been one of the most expensive British players ever, according to reports in Europe, if the Blues had been willing to pay up to £60 million for him.
Gordon claimed that the reported amounts had also taken him by surprise.
Gordon responded when asked about Chelsea's strategy, "That's football nowadays - it's absolutely crazy.
Personally, I don’t think any player is worth that amount of money, but I’m also not going to talk myself down.
“The money in football, that’s just how it is nowadays." I wasn’t too focused on that because I can only control what I can control.
“That’s part and parcel of football. When you’re doing well, there’s always going to be that speculation. "
Gordon insisted he was not desperate to leave Everton because Goodison Park had been good to him, adding that he had to stay.
