In a significant development, Chelsea's search for a new manager has taken a fresh turn as agent Jorge Mendes has reportedly suggested Porto's current manager, Sergio Conceicao, to replace Mauricio Pochettino.
This comes on the heels of Chelsea's announcement on Tuesday that they have parted ways with Pochettino after just one season. Pochettino had originally signed a two-year contract, with an option for a third year.
According to The Mirror, Mendes, a prominent football agent, recommended Conceicao despite the Portuguese manager being under contract with Porto until 2028. The report hints that Conceicao’s contract, which was signed under former president Pinto da Costa, might be subject to revocation, potentially allowing him to join Chelsea without a transfer fee.
Conceicao has been at the helm of Porto since 2017, amassing an impressive 10 trophies and becoming the second-most successful manager in Portuguese football history. His achievements have not gone unnoticed, with links to managerial positions at AC Milan and Marseille also emerging.
As Chelsea seeks to rebuild and find a new leader for the team, Conceicao's proven track record and success in Portugal make him a compelling candidate. The coming weeks will reveal whether Mendes' recommendation will pave the way for Conceicao's move to Stamford Bridge.
