In a statement, Brighton refuted reports that they had agreed to sell Marc Cucurella to Chelsea for £52.
5 million. After Cucurella agreed to the terms of a six-year contract personally, it was thought that the Blues and their Premier League rivals had reached a deal. However, it now appears that the deal is not as close to being finalized as first believed.
"Contrary to inaccurate reports from numerous media outlets this evening, no agreement has been reached with any club to sell Marc Cucurella," the club said in a statement.
Cucurella was reportedly scheduled to have a medical before a high-profile transfer to Stamford Bridge after the two clubs were locked in early negotiations.
Despite initially favoring a move to Manchester City, the 24-year-old accepted terms on a lucrative six-year contract with Chelsea. However, Pep Guardiola's team's refusal to raise their initial £40m offer allowed Chelsea to move forward with a deal.
