Mason Greenwood, a forward for Manchester United, showed up in court today facing charges of attempted rape, using coercive or controlling behavior, and assault resulting in actual bodily harm.
On October 17, the England international made an appearance in a magistrate's court after being placed on suspension by his Premier League club in January.
The choice to keep Greenwood in custody until his upcoming pre-trial hearing at Manchester Crown Court on November 21 was made by District Judge Mark Hadfield.
Greenwood was first detained on January 31 on charges of rape and assault before being detained again on February 1 on charges of sexual assault and threatening to kill. He was granted bail and released on February 2.
Greenwood was detained on October 15 after it was claimed that he had violated the terms of his bail, which had been increased after a hearing in June.

Janet Potter, the Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS North West, said in a statement on October 15: "The Crown Prosecution Service has today authorised Greater Manchester Police to charge Mason Greenwood, 21, with attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm."

The alleged rape of a woman is said to have occurred on October 22, 2021. The alleged assault is said to have taken place last December.
The charge of controlling and coercive behaviour in an intimate or family relationship relates to the period of November 1, 2018 to October 15, 2022.
Greenwood has not responded publicly to the allegations.

Nike also ended its sponsorship deal with Greenwood this year, while Electronic Arts removed him from active squads in its FIFA 22 game.

Greenwood, 21, joined United's youth system in 2007 and started playing regularly for the first team in 2019.

He later played in the Premier League for the first time that week when he came on as a substitute in a 2-0 loss to Arsenal.
