Former Manchester United and Liverpool striker, Michael Owen, has taken a swipe at the Red Devils’ transfer business.

While Liverpool signed ‘world-beaters’, Manchester United’s new summer arrivals ‘look like they have never played football’.

Liverpool have an impressive record in the transfer market in recent years, with very few of manager Jurgen Klopp’s signings failing to make an impact at Anfield.

Man United, on the other hand, have been less convincing with their transfer business since former manager Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement back in 2013, although that may be changing under new manager Erik ten Hag.

“Liverpool over the years, no matter who they have signed, have been world beaters, then teams like Manchester United over the last ten years no matter who they have signed look like they have never played football before,” Owen said on BT Sport.

But what I’m trying to say is that it’s very easy to bring a player into the team or for all the players to play well at the same time. It is a team game.

“We have seen that with Liverpool, they either play well or flounder like they did the other night [against Napoli].”
