The agent of Julian Nagelsmann, Volker Struth, has claimed that the former Bayern Munich head coach was right to turn down an offer to manage Chelsea.
Chelsea held an interest in Nagelsmann becoming their new manager in the summer.
But the 35-year-old dropped out of the running, with Chelsea recently agreeing a deal with Mauricio Pochettino for the Argentine to take over as head coach next season.
“I can confirm that Chelsea were quick to call [after Nagelsmann was sacked by Bayern Munich]. There were some phone conversations,” Struth said to Bild podcast Phrasenmaher.
“It was the right decision (by Nagelsmann) not to go there. It is a club in troubled waters at the moment. And their transfer policy, spending a few hundred million euros, has raised expectations that need to be met.
“There were also some other issues. He was their number one choice; that was our information. I believe it would have happened if he had wanted it.”
