Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has hailed the career enjoyed by Marcelo after he announced his retirement on Thursday.
The 36-year-old revealed his decision in a social media video.
During his time with Madrid, Marcelo won five Champions League titles and six La Liga titles across 19 years.
“My story as a player ends here, but I still have much to give to football,” Marcelo said.
The Brazilian left the Bernabeu as the most decorated player in the Spanish club’s 120-year history with 25 trophies, though that mark has since been surpassed by Nacho, Luka Modric, and Dani Carvajal.
“One of the greatest left-backs in Real Madrid and world football history, and we had the privilege of watching him for a long time,” Pérez said.
“He is one of our greatest legends, and Real Madrid is and always will be his home.”
