Right-back for Chelsea Reece James expressed his "devastation" at not being selected for the England World Cup team.
The defender is not included in the 26-man roster put together by England manager Gareth Southgate.
Midway through October, James, who was vying to be England's first-choice right-back, suffered a knee injury.
He claimed that he realized it would be challenging to recover and rejoin the England team as soon as he suffered that injury.
Trent Alexander-Arnold, Kyle Walker, and Kieran Trippier are Southgate's choices for the right-back position.
“Devastated,” wrote James on Twitter.
“The minute I injured my knee, I knew the turnaround to make the World Cup would be tight, but I always felt it was possible."
“I’ve worked harder than I ever thought I could to give myself the best chance of going, and I truly believe I could help the team."
“I appreciate there was a risk on both sides, but it was one I was willing to take." Good luck to the boys! I’ll be back soon. "Stay safe and send love.”
