Rio Ferdinand, a former defender for Manchester United, criticized Arsenal for giving Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey the man of the match award following their 3-1 victory over Tottenham on Saturday.

The Old Trafford legend argued that William Saliba, a French defender who is 21 years old, should have received the prize instead of Partey, who received it from the Arsenal fans.

Arsenal defeated their north London rivals, Tottenham, on Saturday as they ran out 3-1 winners over Antonio Conte’s side at the Emirates Stadium.

Partey was one of the scorers of Arsenal’s goals against Spurs and was named the "man of the match" by the club’s supporters, but Ferdinand feels the award was not meant for him.

Saliba was praised by fans and pundits after the match, notably for his ability to curtail England and Tottenham captain, Harry Kane.

“How’s he even getting a shout out? "He wasn’t their best player,” Ferdinand said on Vibe.

“He might not play three out of the next five [games]." Saliba was their best player.

“If they lose Jesus, it’s curtains for them.”
