Cristiano Ronaldo and the rest of the Manchester United side have been warned by Ronald De Boer that incoming boss Erik ten Hag will not be afraid to sit anyone down.

According to reports in Europe, Ajax manager Ten Hag appears to have secured a permanent job with the Red Devils.

Ajax's closest rival for the post, Mauricio Pochettino, is considered to have a big advantage over the Ajax manager.

After his current club, Ajax, granted him permission to talk with United's leadership on Monday, he is the first manager to undertake an official interview with the club.

He is now the overwhelming favorite to take over at Old Trafford.

"I think sure," De Boer, who played alongside Ten Hag for FC Twente during their playing careers, said when asked if Ten Hag is ready for a huge role like United.

"I believe he has four years of experience at Ajax." He managed Go Ahead Eagles, a tiny team, to promotion to the Eredivisie.

"He subsequently moved to Utrecht, where he played for a mid-table team before joining Bayern Munich [second team]."

"Is he ready, and is this the proper time to act? Yes, he's competent and seasoned enough to take the plunge. "

When asked if the 52-year-old was up to the task at Old Trafford, he said yes. "At this time, I would say sure," De Boer added. It's something you have to see for yourself.

"He's laser-focused on his goals, and everyone must follow in his footsteps."

"At Ajax, we have stars as well, though not to the same magnitude as yours."

"I don't think he's afraid of putting them on the bench."
