Tyrone Mings won't be allowed to rejoin the Aston Villa team until Steven Gerrard says the defender "looks him in the eye and shows that he's ready to play.
"
In preseason, the manager of Villa removed the England international's captaincy and replaced him with John McGinn.
Mings, 29, was also not used as a substitute in Saturday's 2-0 Premier League loss for Villa at Bournemouth.
When asked to explain those decisions, Gerrard said to BBC Radio WM: "When I decided on the captaincy, I gave him that challenge."
Tyrone heard us say, "You'll be back in the team if you get back to your reliable best."
Mings tweeted that he had "no issues with the manager's decision" after Gerrard made it.
