Bayern Munich's manager, Thomas Tuchel, is set to leave the club at the conclusion of the current season, a year earlier than initially planned.
Tuchel, who took over from Julian Nagelsmann in March 2023 on a contract until June 2025, will be parting ways with the German champions as part of a strategic "sporting realignment" at Bayern.
Despite leading Bayern to the Bundesliga title last season after his mid-season appointment, recent setbacks, including an emphatic 3-0 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen and a 1-0 loss to Lazio in the Champions League last-16 first leg, have prompted this decision. The team currently trails eight points behind Bayer Leverkusen in the league standings.
Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen announced the mutual agreement, stating, "Our goal is to carry out a sporting realignment with a new coach for the 2024-25 season." Dreesen emphasized the collective responsibility of everyone in the club to achieve maximum success in both the Champions League and the Bundesliga until the managerial transition.
Tuchel, who previously managed Chelsea, Paris St-Germain, and Borussia Dortmund, acknowledged the upcoming departure, saying, "We will leave after this season. Until then, my coaching team and I will continue to do everything we can to ensure maximum success." Despite a quarter-final defeat in the Champions League last season, Tuchel remains committed to giving his best until the end of his tenure with Bayern Munich.
