Rio Ferdinand, a Manchester United star, has said that Sir Alex Ferguson's biggest regret was not signing Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema when he was in charge of the Red Devils.

Real Madrid knocked Chelsea out of the Champions League quarter-finals on Tuesday, according to Ferdinand.

Ferguson wanted Benzema to join him at Man United when he was younger, but the France international chose Real Madrid over United.

"The first time I played against him [Benzema] was in 2008, and that was the first time I saw him up close and personal," Ferdinand told BT Sport. Look at how many guys are surrounding him in the goal he scored against us, but that was all he needed.
“I remember coming off the pitch and Sir Alex Ferguson said, ‘Don’t worry, I’m trying to get him’. But with his African connections, and how influential Real Madrid were, he chose them. I think looking back, Sir Alex will believe that is one of his biggest regrets not getting him to sign for the club.”
