Real Madrid's manager, Carlo Ancelotti, recently explained his decision to substitute Jude Bellingham during their 2-2 draw with Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
Bellingham was replaced by Luka Modric in the 75th minute of the match at the Allianz Arena.
Despite Bellingham's strong performance this season, with 21 goals and 10 assists in 36 appearances, Ancelotti clarified that the midfielder was not performing at his best during the game.
He stated that Bellingham had been struggling physically since the hour mark and had developed cramps, prompting the substitution.
"It was a difficult decision to replace Bellingham, especially considering his contributions this season," Ancelotti remarked. "However, he was not at his peak performance level, and he experienced cramps after 60 minutes, necessitating the substitution."
Ancelotti's explanation sheds light on the tactical considerations behind Bellingham's substitution and emphasizes the importance of player fitness in high-stakes matches like the Champions League.
