World Cup playoff: ‘Go hard on him’ – Osimhen reveals what Ghana coach told Amartey, Djiku
Victor Osimhen, a Nigeria striker, has spoken out about what he overheard one of Ghana's assistant coaches telling Black Stars central defenders Daniel Amartey and Alexander Djiku during Friday's World Cup quarterfinal.
In Kumasi, Nigeria and Ghana drew 0-0 in the first leg of their World Cup qualifying playoff.
While Osimhen spearheaded the Super Eagles attack, Daniel Amartey and Djiku of Leicester City were on the Napoli striker and eventually stopped him from scoring in Kumasi.
Until Friday, Osimhen had scored in away matches against Cape Verde, the Central African Republic, and Liberia.
"The assistant coach will usually come out from the bench and tell Amartey and the other defender Djiku, 'go heavy on him,'" Osimhen told Elegbete TV Sports.
"They were attempting to do the project to the best of their abilities, but they have no idea that we have a lethal technique that can actually complete the task for us." We're quite pleased with our results."
"They were trying to tame me," he explained. "I'm not the type of player that makes simulations, but when I'm hit, I'm going to go down, it's part of the game, but when the referee doesn't call a foul, it's natural to react."
I don't give a damn what others think about me collapsing. The game was a lot of fun.
