Afrobeat star Seun Kuti has taken a stand in the ongoing controversy involving Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan over sexual harassment allegations.
During a recent television interview, Akpoti-Uduaghan alleged that Akpabio refused to hear her motion on the Ajaokuta Steel Complex because she rejected his sexual advances. However, since making this bold claim, she has faced severe backlash—especially from her fellow female lawmakers in the Senate.
Reacting to the controversy, Seun Kuti, in an Instagram Live session, voiced his full support for Akpoti-Uduaghan while calling out Nigerian feminists and celebrities for their silence on the matter.
"I stand with Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan 100%! She’s not even the first to make such allegations against Akpabio, yet activists are quiet. They spoke up for Annie Idibia in her issue with 2Baba, but now, they’re nowhere to be found."
He also criticized celebrities for prioritizing trivial gossip, like Burna Boy’s alleged failed promise to Sophia Egbueje, while ignoring more serious issues.
"Many Nollywood actors and actresses won’t speak up because they benefit from fraudulent government grants. Nigerian women must rise and support Natasha."
Although Kuti admitted he couldn’t openly protest, he urged Nigerian women to rally behind Akpoti-Uduaghan in her fight for justice.
