Nigerian music sensation Burna Boy has finally broken his streak of not winning awards at ceremonies by snagging the title of Best African Music Artist at the 2024 iHeart Radio Music Awards in the United States.
The star-studded event, hosted by rapper Ludacris, aired live on FOX on Monday night.
Fellow Nigerian artist Rema also made waves by winning Best Collaboration of the Year for his song 'Calm Down' featuring Selena Gomez.
Among the notable winners were American pop icon Beyoncé, who received the iHeart Innovator Award, and Cher, who was honored with the iHeart Icon Award.
Taylor Swift stole the spotlight with an impressive six wins, including Artist of the Year and Pop Artist of the Year.
With these victories, Burna Boy and Rema now join the ranks of Wizkid and Tems as the only Nigerian artists to have claimed iHeart Radio Music awards.
Before this breakthrough, Burna Boy had faced disappointment at various award shows, missing out on nominations at events like the BET Hip-hop Awards, the Grammys, and the NAACP Image Awards. He also fell short at the Brit Awards in the category of Best International Artist of the Year.
But now, Burna Boy's triumph at the iHeart Radio Music Awards marks a significant milestone in his career, signaling a well-deserved recognition of his talent and hard work.
