South African sensation Tyla continues her meteoric rise as she secures three impressive nominations in the Top Afrobeats Song category for the 2024 Billboard Music Awards.

The full list of nominees, released earlier this week, has sparked excitement and surprises, with Tyla emerging as one of the standout artists.

In addition to her recognition in the Top Afrobeats Song category, Tyla has been nominated for Top R&B Artist, Top R&B Female Artist, and Top Afrobeats Artist. Her debut studio album, Tyla, released on March 22, 2024, has garnered critical acclaim and features the three singles vying for the top spot: Water, Truth or Dare, and Jump.

Joining Tyla in the category are Tems with Me & U, Ayra Starr’s Last Heartbreak Song, Chris Brown’s Sensational featuring Lojay and Davido, Usher’s Ruin featuring Pheelz, and Adam Port & Stryv’s Move featuring Malachiii.

On September 11, at the 2024 VMAs, Tyla took home the Best Afrobeats award for her chart-topping single Water. She delivered a heartfelt speech that resonated across the music world.

“The global impact that Water has had on the world just proves that African music can be pop music too,” Tyla declared. She also shed light on the need for broader representation of African music, saying, “There’s a tendency to group all African artists under Afrobeats. And while Afrobeats has opened so many doors, African music is incredibly diverse and more than just one genre.”

Tyla’s nominations underscore the growing influence of African artists on the global stage. With the recognition of acts like Tems, Ayra Starr, and collaborations featuring Davido and Pheelz, African music’s global reach has never been more evident.

The Billboard Music Awards are set to be a historic moment for African artists, particularly in the Afrobeats category. For Tyla, who has already proven her star power with Water, this year could be the crowning achievement in her already stellar career.
