FIFA President Gianni Infantino has responded to the possibility of Canadian rap superstar Drake headlining the first-ever FIFA World Cup Final Halftime Show in 2026.
According to DAILY POST, FIFA recently confirmed that it is working with Coldplay’s frontman, Chris Martin, to curate a Super Bowl-style halftime show for the grand finale of the tournament next year.
During an interview with Fox5, Infantino reacted positively to the idea of having Drake as the inaugural headliner, calling it a “good idea”.
The show’s co-host proposed:
"I have a great idea for your halftime show – Drake! Since Kendrick Lamar performed at the Super Bowl, why not Drake for the World Cup?"
Infantino responded enthusiastically:
"So we can create a bit of rivalry, right? That’s a good idea. Actually, Drake was with us when we announced the host cities… We will make it happen!"
The 2026 FIFA World Cup Final is set to take place at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, which will be temporarily renamed New York New Jersey Stadium for the tournament. The final will be held on July 19, 2026.
Adding to the excitement, FIFA President Infantino also revealed plans for a massive “takeover” of Times Square during the tournament’s final weekend. The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
