Inibehe Effiong, a public interest and human rights lawyer, has exhorted upcoming artists to hire and maintain a lawyer as a crucial component of their careers.

According to Effiong, anyone in the entertainment industry or any industry who does not have legal representation is taking a huge risk that could result in irreparable damage.

On Thursday, he made this claim in a post on his verified social media account, X.

The announcement follows the passing of Mohbad, a popular Nigerian rapper and singer, Ilerioluwa Olademeji Aloba.

In the Lagos State neighborhood of Ikorodu, Mohbad was laid to rest.

Videos of distant relatives of the deceased trying to take the late singer's assets from his wife, Omowunmi, have surfaced, in addition to the controversy surrounding the cause of his death.

An elderly man who appears to be a family member was heard saying that the singer's wife should not be trusted in a video that has been making the rounds on social media.

However, Effiong is of the view that upcoming artists should have and retain a lawyer as an integral part of their careers.

According to him, the advice has saved lives.

He wrote, “As an upcoming artist, you should have and retain a lawyer as an integral part of your career.
“If you’re into entertainment, or any business for that matter, and you do not have a lawyer, you’re taking a huge risk that may cost you irreparable loss.
“This advice has saved lives.”
