Toke Makinwa, a media personality, has taken to Twitter to bare her thoughts concerning men’s perception of a strong woman.
According to Toke, men think that the ideal definition of a strong woman is one who has endured all forms of abuse, including long-suffering.
Toke also vents about the fact that society also sadly subscribes to this narrative, and has in fact encouraged it for far too long.
Furthermore, she noted that the few people who try to stand up for themselves are labeled wayward and too opinionated.
She wrote:
Nigerian men’s definition of a strong woman is long suffering, emotional abuse, and a high tolerance for accepting bad behavior.
You’ll hear them say, “She turned the boy in me into a man." That means her name is endurance, the woman has endured.
Society encourages that sort of narrative; women are seen as strong by the amount of BS they have to endure till the man is ready to give her peace.
When they meet the women who stand up for themselves, Society labels them as wayward and too opinionated. Who is society again?
