Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has set the record straight amid rumors of a feud with Nigerian Afrobeats superstars Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy.
The controversy erupted after Sarkodie boasted about his long-standing presence in the music industry compared to the Nigerian artists in his latest track, "Brag."
The situation intensified, leading to a spat between former Davido signee Dremo and Sarkodie's protégé Lyrical Joe, who have been exchanging diss tracks.
In a recent interview with RODE, Sarkodie clarified that his lyrics were merely highlighting his longevity in the music scene, not taking shots at the Nigerian artists. He emphasized that if he intended to aim jabs, they would be directed at fellow rappers, not singers.
He said: “Wizkid, Burna Boy and Davido would never think I want to jab them because if I want to jab somebody, it has to be rappers. They are not rappers.
“I am just talking to rappers about how long I’ve been there and who else is best to use as reverence? Everybody knows Wizkid, Burna Boy, Black Sheriff, Asake and Davido. And it’s true that I was in the industry before they all came in. It’s just references of how long I’ve been there. It’s not throwing jabs at anybody. These are incredible, amazing artists.”
