Controversial Nigerian rapper, Darlington Okoye, widely known as Speed Darlington or “Akpi,” has been granted bail by the Nigeria Police Force.
The news was confirmed by his lawyer, Stanley Alieke, via Instagram on Monday.
“Akpi has been granted bail by the court,” Alieke wrote, bringing relief to fans and supporters.
Speed Darlington was arrested on November 27 while performing at a show in Owerri, Imo State. Reports suggest his arrest stemmed from alleged verbal attacks on Grammy award-winning artist Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy.
Deji Adeyanju, a member of Speed Darlington's legal team, claimed Burna Boy played a role in initiating the arrest. Adeyanju accused Burna Boy of having questionable relations with embattled U.S. rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs, who is currently facing serious allegations of sexual exploitation and human trafficking.
Earlier, Adeyanju demanded Speed Darlington’s arraignment within 48 hours or his release on bail, citing issues of injustice. “Our FREP application for Speed Darlington, a.k.a. Akpi, has been granted by the court. He is to be arraigned within 48 hours or released. Justice may take time, but it always prevails,” he stated.
This high-profile case has sparked widespread debate, with fans applauding the legal victory for the outspoken rapper. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story!
