The body of Col (Rtd) Charles Okello Engola, the State Minister for Labor, Employment and Industrial Relations in Uganda has been picked from his home in Kyanja and taken to the mortuary by police after he was shot dead by his bodyguard, Pt Wilson Sabiiti, who later committed suicide by shooting on May 2, 2023.

According to eyewitnesses, the UPDF officer who shot Charles Okello Engola was not hostile to civilians as he made his way from the home of the Minister in Kyanja to a nearby salon where he ended his own life. They say that he asked civilians to get out of his way.

According to The Independent, eyewitnesses said the Uganda People’s Defence Force soldier complained about non-payment of his wages and mistreatment before he shot himself.
