It was reported by Naijacrawl yesterday that Ugandan Army apologies for beaten a Reuter journalist during a protest in support of Bobi Wine.
However, all is yet to be settled concerning the issue that led to the arrest of Robert Kyagulanyi popularly known as Bobi Wine as he will now be charged afresh at a civil court. This comes after the State withdrew earlier charges of illegal possession of firearms.
On Thursday morning, Bobi Wine broke down when the court announced that charges against him had been dropped. He was released but rearrested a few moments later outside the General Court Martial in Gulu. Bobi Wine has been handed over to Ugandan Police and will appear before Chief Magistrate Court in Gulu. He is now charge for terroris.
Lawyer Medard Lubega Segona, who is also the Busiro East MP, had urged the court to release him to seek medical attention on claims he was “beaten and his rights were abused". Opposition leader Kizza Besigye was also arrested on Thursday morning too.
With Bobi Wine being rearrested some of music's biggest names, including Chris Martin, Angelique Kidjo and Damon Albarn, have signed a petition calling for the release of Bobi Wine, an independent member of Ugandan Parliament and pop star. The opposition politician has been in detention for more than a week because of leading a protest for youth participation in goverance.
The musicians have condemned his "vicious" treatment in custody and urge the government to set him free as soon as possible.
