Militants associated with the Jaish al-Adl group launched deadly attacks on several police bases in southern Iran during the overnight hours spanning Wednesday into Thursday.

State media reported on Thursday that three security personnel, including the deputy of a police station, fell victim to these "terrorist attacks" in Iran. This grim development occurred just two days after an airstrike in Syria claimed the lives of seven Iranian Revolutionary Guards.

Alireza Marhamati, the deputy governor of Sistan-Baluchistan province, revealed to state TV that "Three security members have been martyred in several night-time terrorist attacks on military stations in the cities of Rask and Chabahar." Among the casualties was Abbas Mir, the deputy of police station number 11 in Chabahar.

According to IRIB, the state broadcaster, a number of assailants were also killed or injured during the clashes. The jihadist group Jaish al-Adl, labeled a "terrorist" organization by Iran and formed in 2012, claimed responsibility for these attacks.

The assault took place less than 48 hours after the airstrike targeting the Iranian consular annex in Damascus, which resulted in the deaths of seven Revolutionary Guards, including two generals.

Deputy Interior Minister Majid Mirahmadi informed state TV, "The terrorists did not succeed in their goal of capturing the Guards headquarters in Chabahar and Rask and are under siege." He highlighted the ongoing confrontation between security forces and the assailants, emphasizing the courage of the Guards and police.

Sistan-Baluchistan province, which shares borders with Afghanistan and Pakistan, houses numerous stations of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Over the years, the province has grappled with unrest fueled by drug-smuggling activities, Baluchi minority insurgents, and Islamist extremists.

This recent wave of violence echoes previous attacks, including the tragic loss of 11 officers at a police headquarters in Rask in December, as well as a deadly assault on a police station in Zahedan, the provincial capital, last July, resulting in the deaths of two policemen and four assailants.
