After striking a referee, Indian wrestler Satender Malik was banned for life.
After losing the 125kg final during the Commonwealth Games trials, Malik assaulted referee Jagbir Singh, prompting the national federation to issue him a life ban on Tuesday, May 17.
This happened when referee Jagbir Singh ruled in his opponent's favor. Malik ran across the mat, shouting expletives at referee Jagbir Singh and punching him in the face, enraged and sweaty.
"Never before has such a thing happened," Wrestling Federation of India official Vinod Tomar told AFP.
He threatened to kill the referee in addition to hitting him.

Vishal Kalliraman, who also lost a close bout, punched holes in the dry walls of the wrestling hall in a fit of rage, which caused police to be called.
Referee Singh said he was shocked by the sudden assault. He was quoted saying by the Indian Express daily,
“I feel deeply hurt that he hurled abuses at me and hit me in front of everyone for just doing my duty.”
