Oba Adejuyigbe Adefunmi II of Oyotunji African Village in Beaufort County, South Carolina, was allegedly stabbed to death by his sister, Akiba Kasale Meredith, during a heated argument.
The tragic event occurred on Monday, July 29, 2024.
According to a report from WJCL, the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) received a call about a stabbing at around 2:45 p.m. The incident took place at the Oyotunji African Village, located on Bryant Lane. Authorities arrived promptly at the scene and found the 47-year-old Oba Adefunmi II, who was then rushed to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after.
The suspect, identified as 53-year-old Akiba Kasale Meredith, had fled the scene on foot but was apprehended shortly thereafter. She has been charged with murder and is currently held at the Beaufort County Detention Center. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
In a 2017 interview, Oba Adefunmi II revealed that he had seven wives living in various locations, including Canada, Oyotunji, and Virginia, reflecting his widespread familial connections.
