Renowned American preacher Bishop Thomas Dexter (T.
D.) Jakes experienced a medical emergency while delivering a sermon on Sunday at The Potter’s House, his megachurch in Dallas, Texas.
A video of the incident, which quickly circulated on social media, captured the 67-year-old pastor lowering his microphone and appearing to spasm while seated before attendees rushed to his aid. The service was abruptly halted as the congregation was asked to pray for him.
In an official statement, The Potter’s House assured the public that Bishop Jakes received immediate medical attention and is now in stable condition.
"Bishop Jakes is stable and under the care of medical professionals," the church stated. "The entire Potter’s House family is grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support from the community."
The incident occurred after Jakes had delivered a powerful hour-long message, reflecting on the joys of preaching.
Shortly before the health scare, Jakes spoke passionately to the congregation, quoting Psalm 19:14:
"Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, my redeemer, let them go in peace."
His heartfelt words were cut short as he suddenly stopped speaking and appeared disoriented, prompting immediate action from church members on stage.
T.D. Jakes, who founded The Potter’s House in 1996, leads a congregation of over 30,000 members and is widely recognized as a motivational speaker and spiritual leader. His influence extends far beyond the pulpit, with books, conferences, and media appearances inspiring millions globally.
The update from his social media accounts later that day reassured followers of his recovery.
