The 2 billion naira that the Abia State government received from the Federal government will be used for transportation, according to the state government.

Okey Kanu, the commissioner for information and culture, revealed this information to journalists on Tuesday.

He stated that the policy was aimed at reducing the harsh impact of petrol subsidy removal on Abians.

He stated that a convenient travel system would be created for Abians to move within the State, adding that further details about the planned utilization would be made known soon.

He announced that the State has successfully distributed the bags of rice given to it by the Federal government to various political wards in the State.

The Commissioner announced that the Abia State government would also come out with its own palliative program, apart from the ones given by the Federal government.

On the 100th day in office of Governor Alex Otti’s administration, the information and culture department said that there was going to be a silent celebration where completed projects like roads and hospitals would be commissioned by the governor.

Speaking also, the Special Adviser on Policy and Interventions to Governor Otti, Rev. Fr. Christian Anokwuru, said that Abia has received 16,800 bags of rice from the Federal government, which have been allocated to 184 political wards in the State.

He noted that 90 bags of rice were allocated to each of the wards, out of which 55 bags have been shared with each of them.

Anokwuru said that 35 more bags of rice would be shared with each of the wards in Abia before the end of the week.
