At least four passengers lost their lives when a Toyota Sienna bus collided with a tricycle along the Aba-Ikot Ekpene highway in Abia State.
Eyewitnesses reported that the bus, traveling at high speed, was heading towards Aba, while the tricycle, carrying four passengers including the driver, was en route to one of the Abia state border communities with Akwa Ibom state.
According to witnesses, the crash occurred around 5:30 PM and was attributed to the bus driver’s excessive speed, which neglected the highway’s ongoing rehabilitation and incomplete portions.
The collision led to a chaotic scene where sympathizers quickly moved to take away the deceased while soldiers on the scene attempted to prevent onlookers from taking photos.
Recently, the Agalaba Patriotic Forum (APF), a local youth group, urged the construction company responsible for the highway’s rehabilitation to address the poorly repaired sections promptly. They highlighted the risks these areas pose to motorists, underscoring the need for urgent action to prevent further tragedies.
