Senate President Godswill Akpabio has revealed that he spent the night at the Dangote Cement factory in Obajana, Kogi State, after attending the wedding of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
Speaking during a plenary session at the National Assembly on Thursday, March 6, 2025, Akpabio explained that poor lighting conditions at Kogi Airport prevented him from departing, forcing him to stay overnight at the factory.
Akpabio emphasized his close relationship with Natasha's family, describing her husband as a good friend and stating that his presence at the wedding was a testament to their strong bond.
Ongoing Tensions Between Akpabio and Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan
The revelation comes amid rising tensions between Akpabio and Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who was recently suspended for six months by the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions. Her suspension followed a heated exchange over seating arrangements in the chamber, which led to her being escorted out of the Senate by the Sergeant-at-Arms.
Poor Infrastructure at Kogi Airport Sparks Debate
Akpabio’s experience has reignited conversations about Nigeria’s aviation challenges, particularly the poor infrastructure at Kogi Airport. His ordeal highlights the broader struggles public officials and travelers face due to inadequate facilities in the country’s aviation sector.
His statement has since sparked calls for urgent improvements to Nigeria’s airports, emphasizing the need for better lighting, security, and overall infrastructure upgrades to enhance travel safety and efficiency.
