Former President Goodluck Jonathan has expressed his condolences on the death of Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, the first class traditional monarch of the Oyo kingdom.
After 52 years of rule, the monarch died on Friday night.
In a statement, Jonathan expressed his condolences to the government and people of Oyo State, as well as other Alaafin family members.
Oba Adeyemi's journey on earth, he remarked, was filled with remarkable accomplishments and an epochal reign as a revered royal parent.
Jonathan who described him as a great leader, bridge builder and a skilled custodian of the tradition and culture of his people added that the Oba’s journey back to his ancestors shuts the curtain on a glorious era in Oyo.
He further said the Oba will be greatly missed across the nation for his wisdom, disposition to peace and unity and other patriotic traits which he daily exhibited.
“I commiserate with his family and the entire people of Oyo; I urge them to take solace in the fact that Oba Adeyemi lived a long and impactful life of service.”
