The Nigerian government has summoned controversial Islamic cleric, Ahmad Gumi, for questioning regarding his recent remarks on bandit activities in the country.

Addressing journalists at the State House in Abuja on Monday, the Minister of Information and Orientation, Mohammed Idris, emphasized that Gumi is not exempt from the law. The government views it as necessary to inquire about his comments.

In a previous statement, Gumi called on the Tinubu-led government to engage in negotiations with bandits. He urged Tinubu to avoid repeating what he saw as a mistake by former President Muhammadu Buhari, who declined to dialogue with bandits.

Gumi also emphasized that terrorism in Nigeria is funded by the terrorists themselves through ransom payments obtained from kidnapping.

This move by the government signifies a proactive approach to addressing security concerns and ensuring accountability for public statements.
