Ayambem’s impeachment occurred last Wednesday when 17 out of 25 assembly members voted against him, citing allegations of misappropriation of funds. The no-confidence vote came after Ayambem had been in office for just 11 months.

Addressing the situation, Ayambem expressed his gratitude to Governor Otu and the involved stakeholders for their pivotal role in restoring peace and stability within the State Assembly. He praised Otu’s exceptional leadership during these challenging times, noting that the governor's dedication to peace has been evident throughout his political career.

“The governor’s track record as a leader who is committed to peace has never been in doubt,” Ayambem stated. “This has continued to shine through from his time as senator to his current position as governor. I want to sincerely thank you for your genuine interest in and commitment to the peace and unity of Cross River State.”

Ayambem also extended his thanks to the relevant stakeholders and his colleagues for their unwavering support. He pledged to work cooperatively with all assembly members to foster a harmonious environment that promotes the growth and progress of both the House of Assembly and Cross River State.
