The wife of the Governor of Cross River State, Rev (Mrs) Eyoanwan Bassey Otu, took a step to alleviate the burden on the victims of a severe electrocution incident that occurred in Calabar last Saturday.

The incident left two traders, Chijioke Udoji and Uzoma Anthony, with serious injuries.

Accompanied by Hon. Effiong Ekarika, the lawmaker representing Calabar South I State Constituency in the Cross River State Assembly, Rev. (Mrs) Otu visited the victims at the Calabar General Hospital on Thursday. The gesture exemplifies Governor Bassey Otu's commitment to the "People's First" philosophy, where assistance is extended to those affected by avoidable situations.

Representing the Governor's wife during the hospital visit, Dr (Mrs) Inyang Asibong expressed gratitude for the divine mercy that spared the lives of the victims during the unfortunate electrical mishap. Dr Asibong quoted the First Lady as assuring the victims and their families that the Government of Cross River State stands with them in this challenging and avoidable circumstance.

She stated, "Let your minds be at rest and thankful to God as my office has undertaken all the medical expenses. I wish to also commend all those who put their lives at risk to avert a fatal outcome. I, however, urge the concerned authorities to investigate and see how such an unfortunate situation can be averted in the future."

Additionally, Hon. Ekarika showed support for the initiative of the First Lady by contributing N500,000 towards the medical expenses of the victims.

The visit and assistance extended to Chijioke Udoji and Uzoma Anthony underscore the importance of community support and the responsiveness of the Cross River State Government to the well-being of its residents. The compassionate efforts reflect a commitment to the welfare of the people, reinforcing the "People's First" philosophy of the state leadership.
