Governor Dapo Abiodun has urged Ogun State Institute of Technology, Igbesa graduates to create jobs rather than chasing after fleeting fortune.
This was said by Abiodun at the polytechnic's Dapo Abiodun Twin Lecture Complex's 5th convocation event.
Abiodun gave the graduates a task to demonstrate the skills and information they had been taught as part of their shaping, nurturing, training, and equipping for life's challenges and chances. He was represented by his deputy, Noimot Salako-Oyedeke.
You ought to be job producers rather than job seekers. As a result, you must be imaginative and inventive, the governor said, cautioning them to let their families and society profit from their education and experience.
“I strongly advise that you avoid the unfortunate ways of some people who are after quick wealth which only glitters but does not last. But, strive for excellence through hard and honest work,” he added.
No fewer than 2,726 OND and HND students of the 2021/2022 academic session graduated from the polytechnic on its 5th convocation.
The overall best graduating student, Adenuga Aminat, from the Department of Chemistry recorded a CGPA of 3.94 out of 4.0.
In her address, the Rector of the Institute, Dr. Olufunke Akinkurolere, also charged the graduates not to contribute to what she called the country’s woes, urging them to be patriotic in defending the country with all the skills acquired at school.
“I advise that you go and prosper as you graduate from school today. Make positive changes and rebuild the falling walls of our Jerusalem which is Nigeria. Do not contribute to the country’s woes, rather, be patriotic and defend the country with all the skills you have acquired here,” she pleaded.
