Following a heavy downpour in Ikare-Akoko, headquarters of the Akoko North East Local Government Area of Ondo State, a student of Mount Carmel Girls’ Secondary School in the town had been swept away by flood.

While on her way home, the student, identified as Motunrayo John, a Junior Secondary School (JSS) student, was said to have unintentionally fallen into a drainage ditch.

It was gathered that the incident took place in River Dada in the ancient town’s Semu-Semu neighborhood.

The victim, according to sources, had measured the flood’s depth with her legs before she fell and was swept away.

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Ikare-Akoko Police Division, Superintendent of Police (SP) Olatujoye Akinwande, confirmed the regrettable incidence and stated that Mrs. Ajoke Asiwaju, the principal of Mount Carmel Girls’ Secondary School, had reported the incident.

The DPO said that a search and rescue effort for the girl had already been initiated.
