In a heartbreaking turn of events, Paul Akintelure, a prominent governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, has tragically passed away.
Before his untimely demise, Akintelure had voiced concerns about threats to his life, both direct and indirect.
Expressing his hopes for improvement over time, Akintelure's situation sadly worsened as the APC governorship primary election, scheduled for April 25, drew closer.
In a statement released by his spokesperson, Oladapo Akintelure, on Thursday, March 21, 2023, Akintelure had highlighted the escalating threats to his life, stating, "Initially, I hoped these incidents would dissipate over time, yet regrettably, they have escalated to pose a serious threat to my life."
Despite the challenges, Akintelure remained resolute, emphasizing, "The threats against me only strengthen my resolve to stand up for what is right and just. I will not allow fear to dictate our path forward. Let us embrace peace, progress, and unity."
Recalling Akintelure's political journey, he previously ran as the deputy governorship candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) alongside Rotimi Akeredolu, the incumbent Ondo State governor. He also contested a senatorial election against the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, albeit unsuccessfully.
A medical doctor hailing from Igbotako, Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State, Akintelure's passing comes amidst the ongoing buildup to the Ondo governorship election, casting a shadow over the political landscape of the state.
