In a brazen attack on Monday, gunmen targeted the Okigwe Correctional Farm Settlement, resulting in the tragic death of a police officer and the escape of seven inmates.
The incident unfolded during the early hours at the Correctional Service Farm Settlements, Umualomokein Okigwe.
Reports indicate that prior to the assault, the attackers abducted the correctional service officer responsible for the settlement. Shortly after, they proceeded to attack the residence of Senator Patrick Ndubeze.
Commissioner of Police, Danjuma Aboki, visited the scene and expressed a firm commitment to ensuring the safe rescue of the abducted correctional service officer. He vowed that no stone would be left unturned in the pursuit of justice.
In response to the attack, the Commissioner of Police promptly ordered the deployment of the Command’s Special Tactical Squad to track down the suspected operatives of IPOB/ESN believed to be responsible for the violence.
A statement from the Command’s spokesman, Henry Okoye, attributed the attacks to IPOB/ESN, alleging their involvement in the assaults on Correctional Service Farm Settlements, Umualomoke, and the residence of Senator Patrick Ndubeze in Okigwe. The events on February 12, 2024, led to the release of seven inmates, the abduction of the officer in charge of the farm settlement, and the tragic death of a police inspector.
As investigations unfold, the authorities remain committed to bringing those responsible to justice and ensuring the safety and security of the affected areas.
