Barring any last meeting changes, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has finalized the process of postponement of the governorship and state assembly elections initially scheduled for this coming weekend.
Naijacrawl understands that the electoral body is expected to take a decision on the issue at a meeting of its national commissioner on Wednesday night.
Since the conclusion of the presidential and national assembly polls, the electoral body has been in court over the application seeking to extract data embedded in the bimodal voter accreditation system (BVAS) and inspect other election materials.
Earlier today, court granted INEC the permission to reconfigure the BVAS and for INEC to do that effectively it will take at least 5 days.
Giving the short notice, it will be practically impossible for INEC to go on with the election which is less than three days.
An official statement about the postponement is expected any time soon.
The new date is March 18
