One Benjamin Apeh, a landlord, reportedly died after collapsing during an argument with his tenant over unpaid rent.
SP Omolola Odutola, the Public Relations Officer for the Ogun Police Command, reported on Tuesday in Abeokuta that the incident took place on Sunday at Arigbabu Village, Sotubo in the Sagamu local government area of Ogun State.
The case, initially reported as a suspected murder, was brought to the police's attention on Monday at 5:00 p.m. by Precious Apeh, the daughter of the deceased.
According to the police spokesperson, Precious Apeh informed the authorities that her father had a heated argument with the tenant on Saturday at 7:20 p.m. over unpaid rent. The argument resumed early Sunday morning around 6:30 a.m., during which the tenant allegedly threatened to kill Benjamin Apeh.
"During the argument, Apeh collapsed and was rushed to NNPC Hospital, Mosimi, where he was later confirmed dead by the doctor on duty," Odutola stated. The tenant fled the scene, and efforts are currently underway to apprehend him.
The body of the deceased has been deposited at Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) Morgue. The police continue to investigate the incident.
