In a tragic turn of events, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command has apprehended Okon Edet for the brutal killing of his 75-year-old father, Chief Okon Edet, using a machete.

The shocking incident unfolded in Uruting village, located in Okobo Local Government Area of the state.

This distressing event comes amidst a broader crackdown on criminal activities in the region. Okon Edet was one of the 52 suspects arrested for various offenses, including murder, kidnapping, armed robbery, child trafficking, cultism, and fraud. These arrests were announced by the Akwa Ibom Police Commissioner, CP Waheed Ayilara, during a press briefing held in Uyo on Friday.

During interrogation, Okon Edet reportedly confessed to the heinous act, citing his father's alleged sale of all his land parcels, including the one designated for Okon's own home, as the motive behind the gruesome murder. According to CP Ayilara, Edet claimed that his father's actions left him with no choice but to take drastic measures.

CP Ayilara emphasized the commitment of the police force to ensure that justice prevails in this case and others like it. He reassured the public that thorough investigations are underway, and all suspects will face legal consequences for their actions. Once the investigations are complete, the suspects will be swiftly brought before the court to answer for their alleged crimes.

This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the importance of addressing underlying issues and fostering peaceful resolutions within families and communities. The Akwa Ibom State Police Command remains steadfast in its duty to uphold law and order and protect the safety and well-being of all citizens.
