In a heart-stopping incident near the Mountain Top University in the Kara Ibafo area of Ogun State, a total of 22 individuals narrowly avoided a fatal outcome following a collision on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Confirming the harrowing ordeal, Florence Okpe, the Spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in the state, disclosed details of the accident on Sunday. The crash involved 17 males and five females and occurred between two vehicles: a Toyota Highlander bearing registration number KSF 461DM, and an 18-seater bus marked AAA 859 XM.

According to Okpe, the root cause of the collision was attributed to a loss of control by the driver of the Toyota Highlander, resulting in a collision with the fully loaded bus.

In the aftermath of the accident, nine individuals sustained varying degrees of injuries and were promptly transported to AZ Zonecare Hospital located in the Magboro area of the state for medical attention.

In her statement, Okpe urged motorists to prioritize safety by maintaining controllable speeds at all times, emphasizing the importance of vigilance to prevent tragic incidents like the one witnessed on the expressway.

"Aside from conducting regular vehicle checks before embarking on journeys, it is crucial for drivers to adhere to manageable speeds to mitigate the risk of accidents," she emphasized.

The swift response of emergency services and the cooperation of medical personnel ensured that the injured victims received prompt medical care. As investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the crash, this incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of cautious driving and adherence to road safety regulations to avert tragic outcomes on our highways.
