The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has made significant strides in dismantling drug trafficking networks, with the recent arrests of multiple suspects, including a businessman, a cartel leader, and a Chinese national, in operations spanning Enugu and Lagos.

Enugu Airport Bust: 50-Year-Old Businessman Intercepted

On Wednesday, NDLEA operatives intercepted a 50-year-old businessman at Akanu Ibiam International Airport (AIIA), Enugu. The suspect, arriving on an Ethiopian Airlines flight from Addis Ababa, was arrested during routine inbound passenger screening. After months of intelligence monitoring, the man was placed on excretion observation, leading to the recovery of 90 cocaine wraps weighing 2.019kg.

According to NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, the suspect confessed that financial struggles in his phone and accessories business, which operates in Lagos and Gabon, pushed him into the drug trade. His complex travel route from Gabon to Cameroon and onward to Ethiopia was an attempt to obscure his movements, unaware he was already on the NDLEA’s watchlist for three months.

Cartel Leader and Associates Nabbed in Lagos

In another major breakthrough, NDLEA’s Special Operations Unit arrested a 42-year-old cartel coordinator and five associates on Thursday at Ago Palace Way, Okota, Lagos. The operation yielded 2.412kg of cocaine, further disrupting the network’s activities.

Chinese National Linked to Drug Syndicate Arrested in Ikeja

A 58-year-old Chinese man suspected of operating a drug syndicate was apprehended in Lagos. NDLEA agents tracked him to a hotel near Allen Avenue, Ikeja, where a search uncovered cocaine, methamphetamine, electronic weighing scales, and other incriminating items. This operation followed the interception of a 40-year-old Nigerian suspect at the Gbaji checkpoint along the Badagry-Seme expressway with 750g of cocaine.
